Our Primal Philosophy – A Summary By Our CEO & Chairman Anthony J. Archer

Throughout history, mankind has proven ingenuity, as individuals and in small groups, sufficient for the immediate requirement, but rarely are these solutions viable for the long term. Even in fulfilling our most primal of needs, to cultivate food has thus far proven to be limited in its longevity. The Green Revolution of the 1960s was a turning point in modern agriculture that heralded a drastic increase in global production, saving one billion people from starvation. Although these developments enabled our rising population to thrive well into a new millennium, farming techniques now rely on an unsustainable amount of water, energy, and agrochemicals.

Beach Clean-Up 2019

During our yearly “Praia Limpia” (Beach Clean-Up) Initiative, we travel to nearby beaches, together with our employees, their families and kids from local schools, to collect plastic which we then send to a recycling facility. Since it is not easy to draw the attention of everyone who would like to participate in such actions, we often use services of agencies such as The Marketing Heaven, which in most cases results in a good response of citizens willing to help. “Our yearly Beach Clean-Up initiative gives us the opportunity to educate employees, their families and the local community on the importance of reducing and recycling waste, while doing our part to relieve the weight of the tourist season on local beaches.”,…

Sustainable Investments are a Growing Future in Global Financial Portfolios

“Central banks are important institutional investors, and the fact that they are participating in this market, it gives the market almost like a seal of  reliability and maturity.”

Christian Deseglise, Global Head of Central Banks and Global Sponsor of Sustainable Finance at HSBC Holdings Plc.

As part of the continuous support, demand, and proliferation of sustainable initiatives, banks across the world have started to welcome sustainable financing with the purchase of green bonds.

The term “green bond” refers to debt securities whose proceeds are used to finance investment projects with an environmental benefit. There are different approaches to defining and certifying green bonds, and no global market standard has emerged so far. …

Trade Deal Between the European Union and Mercosur Opens European Markets to South American Producers

“One of the most important trade deals of all time.”
Jair Bolsonaro, President of Brazil

In 1999, the European Union and Mercosur started negotiations on a trade deal.  Twenty years after negotiations began, both sides have now reached a historic free-trade agreement. The agreement aims to cut or remove trade tariffs, making imported products cheaper for consumers while also boosting exports for companies on both sides. It is set to create a market for goods and services covering nearly 800 million consumers, making it the largest in the world in terms of population.

Mercosur is made up of Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay. For many years Brazil, one of the world’s largest economies, remained closed to European economic sectors.…

Cannabis and Neem Part 3: How Neem Outperforms Synthetic Pesticides

The rise of the cannabis industry has led to the realization that there is a lack of federal regulations to guarantee a safe product for consumers. In our previous newsletters, we discussed the growth of the cannabis industry, health concerns arising from the use of toxic pesticides, and government actions designed to protect the public. The reality is that producers and governments must guarantee the sustainability and safety of the industry, to meet growing demand and protect consumers and the environment. Neem offers several natural and safe solutions for the cannabis industry, while also being more dynamic than synthetic pesticides.

While synthetic pesticides have played a key role in feeding the global population for decades now, the effect on human health and the environment has been massive.…

Cannabis and Neem Part 2: Health Concerns Drive Government Action to Regulate Cannabis Industry

As legal cannabis takes the spotlight, so does the thought of regulation and processes that the legal cannabis industry will require towards becoming a sustainable and safe industry. The use of synthetic substances in order to satisfy the growing demand for cannabis is also putting people’s health at risk, and both consumers and governments have now started to demand the industry be regulated to guarantee the use of safe substances when growing cannabis. This is creating a boom for biological pesticides and organic farming inputs.

Synthetic Pesticides Health Concerns for the Cannabis Industry

In the US, since cannabis is still illegal under federal law, the EPA considers the use of pesticides on cannabis to be illegal.

Cannabis and Neem Part 1: Cannabis Market Expected to Grow Exponentially in 2019 and Beyond

Cannabis is creating new global markets as its legalized use is spreading around the world. As political movements gain momentum to legalize the use of cannabis for medical and recreational purposes, many new and innovative uses have increased in other related product and service areas too. As a result, the cannabis industry experienced significant growth in 2018 and will only continue to grow as legalization increases across the globe.

An increasing cannabis market will inevitably face the same environmental challenges that every other crop in the world currently faces: the decreasing availability of fertile land and water, as well as the need for large amounts of pesticide and fertilizers, which will need to be organic in order to satisfy the growing number of environmental regulations and both consumer and government demand for safe products without synthetic pesticide traces.…

Primal’s Green Economy Report Highlights the Economic Importance of Sustainability in Agriculture

One of the greatest responsibilities of the current generation is to transform the archaic system of modern industry into one that guarantees that the needs of all are met in a safe, healthy and sustainable way. After generations of prioritizing maximum productivity over sustainability in our socioeconomic endeavors, mankind has caused unprecedented pressures on our most vital resources.

In order to build a safe and secure model for global economic prosperity, we require new and innovative solutions to solve the challenges that the world faces. One such challenge is the ability to sustain our rising populations at a time of arable land degradation, stalling crop yield growth and a constantly changing climate.…

Changing Weather Patterns Will Upend The Fortunes of Farmers

Findings published in the journal Nature Sustainability show how shifting weather patterns will upend the fortunes of farmers worldwide. Trade will become key as higher temperatures will impact food and water supplies, forcing trading volumes for grains, including wheat corn and rice, to rise as much as a fifth. These findings come from American and European climate scientists and resource economists who modeled climate, land, and water data to reach these conclusions.

The amount of land being farmed needs to increase by about 50% - 100 million hectares (247 million acres) – by 2050, according to the report. This massive agricultural expansion could double global food production and ensure the world’s population is fed, however, it will need policy makers to allow trade flows to make sure those commodities reach the global population. …
